Since starting Scotriders it has always been our aim to offer training to youths aged 14+ to increase their knowledge of road safety and the social and environmental implications associated with powered two wheelers (PTW's). All this while letting them participate in an activity in which they have a genuine interest and hopefully encouraging them to use mopeds/motorcycles when they are older.
After coming up against many brick walls (insurance being the main one), we finally got our first youth project up and running in Jan 2005, this was through Dundee City Council's Communities Dept at Ardler Complex and with the help of Tayside Police's local liaison officers. Since then we have run several courses for a number of Youth groups and organisations.
Through a programme based upon the Driving Standards Agency's CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) course, we aim to teach these youths to ride motorcycle's and develop their riding skills and awareness of potential dangers in the safe and controlled enviroment of Scotriders 3000m/sq Training Centre.
In our Training Centre we have the space to provide simulated road situations and this allows the youths to negotiate roundabouts, junctions etc. which they cannot legally perform on road. |
